What works

In the tests I made I didn't find anything that didn't work, with Wine 2.0.1 freshly installed. Solo mode, multiplayer mode, all ok.

With Wine 1.6.1 that came through the Linux Mint Software Manager, I had a blocking problem, the game didn't find access to internet (which is required for VSk5 running). After reinstalling Wine according to explanations found in this tutorial, it is OK:

I am newbie in Linux, I really needed this help... So,  thx to

Angelos Kyritsis for this post in pcsteps.

Additional Comments

I would rate "Silver" and not "Gold" because the frame rate of the game is clearly lower with my Linux/Wine, compared with the frame rate I have under Windows XP, on the same machine. Could be a problem of graphics drivers ? (open source). The PC I presently use for these tests is a Dell Optiplex 755 (Intel Pentium E2160 @ 1.80GHz, Nvidia GeForce GT 730) - very old indeed, but still works well...

I took a few screenshots with the frame rate displayed. Tests made in "solo" mode, but with 8 AI boats.

37 fps in Windows XP : image ScreenShotWinXP-37fps.jpg

17 fps in Linux : image ScreenShot04Linux-17fps.jpg

This remains OK for playing this game, and of course a more powerful PC would help...
