What works

Installation from CD: Works if you run "bitsetup.exe" from the win95 or win31 directory.

Running the game after installation: The game correctly detects that the screen resolution is set larger than 640x480 and offers to run in a window. The game successfully enters either fullscreen or windowed mode. The main menu appears as it should, giving the options to load a saved game, start a new game, or go the interface overview, or to quit.

What does not

Installation from CD: Running "bitauto.exe" from the autoplay folder displays a menu, but the install option on that menu does nothing. Running "setup.exe" from the CD's root directory brings up an error message saying "The Buried in Time setup application was not found.". Both of these problems can be avoided if your Wine has a CD drive configured (see comment)

Playing the actual game requires CD#2, and will keep asking for CD#2 until that disc is detected. Likewise, the interface overview requires CD #1. The interface overview works if it detects the needed CD, but plays a crackling noise.

If you do have CD #2 inserted, and Wine is configured to use the proper CD drive, then attempting to start a new game results in the screen going entirely black and the game apparently freezing.

Additional Comments

My freshly created Wine prefix does not apparently have a CD drive. Some of the problems mentioned above can be fixed by manually configuring Wine to use your real CD drive's mount point as drive D:. This is not ideal because my Ubuntu install mounts each of the three CDs at different locations (/media/BIT95FCD for CD 1, /media/BIT_MPC_2 for CD 2, and /media/BIT_MPC_3 for CD 3), requiring that I reconfigure Wine each time I insert a different CD.
