What works

The installer, but it crash before telling 'end'.

What does not

1. Game's DRM fails to check (error window) my retail DVD-ROM (v1.0).

2. Black screen after the DRM check (after using a NoCD).

3. Just when running the game, black screen + freeze (sometimes with the game logo displayed) however the mouse cursor is moving. Same issue with game's 'failsafe mode' or not.

Workarounds

1. By using a NoCD.

2. winetricks dx3d9

3. Unknown. Things tried: winetricks dxvk (v1.7.3), the sound.reg fix (forcing Alsa audio: http://bugs.winehq.org/attachm... ).

What was not tested

Getting to the game's main menu, seeing or hearing the game's intro.

Additional Comments

Retail DVD-ROM v1.0 (Europe).
Prefix used: 32bits, OS set as 'winxp' with winecfg.

I have installed the game without PunkBunster, and tested solo play mode only.

2015-10-07 Admin note: the instructions below are extremely old and may not apply to current Wine.

HowTo for Call of Duty 5: WaW - for testers only
(Tested with wine 1.1.13, 1.1.12 and 1.1.11)
 1. sh winetricks directx9 (http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks)
2. regedit sound.reg (sound.reg being this file: http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=18560)
3. patch your wine sources with this patch and compile: http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=18559
4. copy the XAudio2_0.dll into the ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 directory.
5. game should work at this moment (it is only workaround - without in-game sounds)
