HowTo / Notes

How To

Open up the Terminal ( It would normally be in Applications > Accessories. ) and paste in the three commands:

  • sudo apt-get install cabextract
  • wget
  • sh winetricks mfc42 wininet ie6
(mfc42 because they forgot to bundle it, wininet so updates work (bug 16292), and ie6 so it doesn't complain about ie3 missing (bug 16294)).

If you have a wine older than 1.1.12, you'll also have to do sh winetricks directx9 to work around a crash bug (bug 16293).

This works for Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10; it may not for other versions of Linux.
