What works

Virtualdub installer was used

Mov file is supported while installing

  • Quicktime alternative
  •  mov plugin for virtualdub (32-bit version)

H.264 compression runs fine too after installing the codec.

Plugin for Deshaking was tested and works fine too.

What does not

There is an issue with DirectX support.

The terminal displays the following message: "fixme:volume:GetVolumePathNameW ....."

The workaround is to remove directx in the option -> Preferences -> Display and you uncheck the "Use directx"...

HowTo / Notes

Integrate into KDE context menu

To have a context menu in KDE (e.g. Dolphin):

  • add the following file:
    ~/.kde/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/virtualdub.service

    (in KDE 5 moved to ~./local/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus)
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Service
ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin
MimeType=video/*
Actions=Virtualdub;
#X-KDE-Submenu=Virtualdub
#X-KDE-Submenu[de]=
Encoding=UTF8

[Desktop Action Virtualdub]
Name=Compress using Virtualdub
Icon=video
Exec=~/bin/virtualdub.sh ~/path/default-compression.vcf "%f"
  • create a "default-compression.vcf" somewhere by Save processing settings... from Virtualdub. (includes current filters and codec settings)
  • add the following file, make it executable
    ~/bin/virtualdub.sh
#!/bin/bash

export WINEPREFIX=~/.wine
WINE=/usr/bin/wine
VDUB=~$WINEPREFIX/drive_c/Progs/VirtualDub/VirtualDub.exe

VCF=$(winepath -w "$1")
JOBS=$(winepath -w ~/path/virtualdub.jobs)
VIDEO=$(winepath -w "$2")

#echo $WINE $VDUB /master $JOBS /s $VCF $VIDEO
$WINE $VDUB /master $JOBS /s $VCF $VIDEO

If you don't need compression presets, you may remove all VCF stuff. If you want to use the default JOBS file, you may remove all JOBS stuff.
