What works

Installation works fine, including patches.

I could run the main menu, and play the prologue campaign to test the game.

To do so, zoom effects, tip advisors, battles, and on-line help runs without crash.

However I detect several graphics bugs.

Using no-cd patches to play the game.

What does not

The major graphics issues and bugs are:

Strange reflection of the sky in the soil, like a mirror, causing a major perturbation of gameplay.

Double corrupted pictures on screen when loads something.,

A little slowdown when the game loads units during a battle, but without causing major problems.

The air/land transition mirror bug cuts the scenario elements, which is very unjoyable.

Basically the main problem that avoid a best classification is the Direct3D bugs.

Additional Comments

This game is playable, but have some bugs that should be fixed to have a real gameplay experience (and a have at last a gold classification ! )

gstreamer should be turned off
by Richard Thier on Monday March 15th 2021, 6:45
Recently I cannot run the game unless I turn off gstreamer in wine.

Saw "winegstreamer" in the stack trace on crash when opening campaign map (load saved or new campaign). Did not crash when just doing "Quick battle".

Just followed this guys tutor on turning wine's gstreamer off:
affanindo.github.io/disable-winegstreamer

Basically it is not listed in libraries tab, but you can manually write in "winegstreamer" in winecfg libraries tab and disable it. Only disabled for this game of course.

Likely this is regression, but I am not sure it is regression in wine itself! Because I looked at the last savegame date and build a version of wine at that moment, then it still crashed without gstreamer, so either I was already using outdated wine at that point when I saved (might be possible) or maybe the regression is in gstreamer or somewhere else outside wine codebase. Workaround is to just disable it.
