HowTo / Notes

HOWTO
  1. Install the game.
  2. Apply the latest patch 4.02 (optional).
  3. Replace original CC4.EXE with cracked NO-CD version.
    • NOTE: You don't need to update wine registry with any *.reg or *.com file that comes together with the crack. Just replace CC4.EXE and thats all.
  4. Open winecfg and create new configuration for CC4.exe. Then go to the "Screen" tab in winecfg and check "Emulate virtual desktop". Leave the default values to 800x600, otherwise the game will crash. Click Apply and then OK.
    • NOTE: You can change the screen resolution later in the game's Options menu. 
  5. Now type into your terminal wine regedit and change the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Strategic Simulations Inc./Close Combat/4.00/PlayVideos from 01 00 00 to 00 00 00 00.
    • NOTE: Yes, you will never see those great short movies, but if you don't change this value the game will crash immediately after starting. 
  6. Now you can play the game!
    • NOTE: Close Combat will open in a small window. In KDE hold Alt+F3 and then go to Advanced->Fullscreen. If you know any better solution on how to start the game in fullscreen,  post it in a comment and I will add it to this HOWTO.
