Patching the game
Starting the game
All menu items and game options except as noted below.
What does not
Starting an internet server ("exception: can't initialize DirectPlay").
Post effects in Video Options (freezes game on 3D engine startup; set disabled to ON to fix)
Starting game with NumLock on (causes every keypress in 3D engine to pause the game. Start the game with NumLock off to fix--turning it off while ingame does not work).
Exiting from 3D engine (causes access violations, often "access violation in 'wined3d!WineDirect3DCreateCLipper+1C3D4'"
Sound from right speaker (the game sets the right slider of the PCM control in Gnome's Gmix volume control program to 0 for some stupid reason. Jump out to the desktop to fix it).
Starting with the 1.52 patch, I've gotten a rendering bug that affects the bottom left corner of the screen. It doesn't always happen, and I can't pinpoint a cause.
And here' s the biggie that drastically affects gameplay: I get random crashes while playing in 3D mode. Sometimes they happen early, sometimes they wait until you're halfway into the battle, and sometimes they don't occur at all. But they usually do.
What was not tested
Joining a server.
The NumLock problem may not occur for all players. I've seen it twice now, once with this game and once with another while using wine ver. 1.1.15. I never experienced it before that. It's difficult in every case to distinguish between what's a game bug and what's due to running the game in Wine, since the Pacific Storm games are notoriously buggy. I sure hope somebody can fix the wine errors though, as this seems like a very cool game.
