Additional Comments

In order to run the game, one must run "winetricks cc580 pdh vcrun2008 winhttp wininet". wininet is absolutely necessary for the client to connect to the server and vcrun2008 is to fix various graphical glitches within the app. To play the game, open a terminal and type "wine cmd.exe". Once in wine's command prompt, enter the following commands, including the quotes: wine cmd C: cd "%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\RobloxVersions\version-*" &.\RobloxPlayerBeta.exe --id gameid Replace gameid with the ID from the URL of the game you wish to play. For example, if the game is located at, enter 483633 for the game ID. To log into your account, open the Roblox Studio and log in through there. Once logged in, the Roblox Player workaround will automatically use your account and any game you join will use that account. To log out, just open Roblox Studio and log out through there. The game itself should work flawlessly at this point :)

HowTo / Notes

Information regarding OpenGL vs DirectX mode

In older versions of Wine, Roblox Player & Studio work far better with OpenGL graphics enabled.

To enable OpenGL mode, open the Roblox Studio, click "File", then "Settings", followed by "Rendering". A prompt will come up saying "Changing settings may make ROBLOX unstable". Click OK. Under the Rendering submenu, change the option "graphicsMode" from "Direct3D" to "OpenGL". Restart Roblox Studio.

The game should now perform much better.

We recommend using Wine 5.0 or higher.

Note about installing Roblox on Linux easily

Running Roblox on Linux is easiest when using a helper script, such as Grapejuice or Roblox Linux Wrapper. You can obtain Grapejuice by clicking this link and Roblox Linux Wrapper by clicking this link. Each project has instructions to follow on how to install Roblox on Linux.

The Roblox game client is using anti-cheat and security features (VMProtect) that prevent Wine (and other emulators) from connecting to servers.

The client will load up just fine and you will be connected for a brief second but will be forced into a disconnect within 10 seconds.
