What works

I am currently posting this from Internet Explorer 8 as downloaded from the site link here.

From a fresh install on Ubuntu 9.04:
First I installed the IE7 with "wine IE7-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe" in terminal.
Launched this.
Then came out of that and ran the installer for IE8 with "wine IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe"
This produced a load of copy errors from the installer so when it died I Ctrl-C 'd out of it and pasted the copy errors into a file did a few replaces on the text to shift C:\\ to drive_c/ etc. and changed each line to a cp command
e.g.
original line:
err:setupapi:SetupDefaultQueueCallbackA copy error 2 "c:\\5bdc380f19c17d0b6b21dbc3\\WinFXDocObj.exe" -> "C:\\windows\\system32\\DllCache\\WinFXDocObj.exe"
re-formatted line :
cp "./.wine/drive_c/5bdc380f19c17d0b6b21dbc3/winfxdocobj.exe" "./.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/DllCache/WinFXDocObj.exe"
did this for each line and as you can see replaced the source side ONLY filename uppercase with lowercase then ran it with bash.

I suspect it is dying at these copy instructions and that is why I have no toolbars, etc.

What does not

No Toolbars, Tabs or Menus apart from right-click which is missing something (cut/copy/paste) I think.

Additional Comments

No navigation bars, tabs or menus at the top of window. Suspect a dll or several is/are missing. :) But works fine for showing the webpages and following links. I am posting this from IE8 now.
