Short recipe: 1. Install using Autorun.exe on the game DVD. 2. Use winecfg to set wine to run in a virtual desktop, dimensions 1024x768. 3. Start the game using the desktop shortcut. Crucial: If wine is run in fullscreen mode, or with a virtual desktop that is too big, the intro will play and the menu music will play but nothing can be seen of the game itself. (1280x1024 works for the virtual desktop too, but it resizes to the smaller window size anyway.) Additional: In order to start the game from the command line, take the exact wine command from the .desktop shortcut, with all its flags, and place it in a shell script. In the simplest form, it seems this shell script needs to be executed in the game directory. However, one can easily create a second shell script that calls the first one, and place this second one at any location (such as in ~/bin, or wherever that is in the PATH.) The first shell script (in the game directory) can also directly specify the parameters for the virtual desktop, by using 'wine explorer /desktop=CEAW,1024x768' in place of the normal 'wine'. This is useful if one does not want wine to run all applications in such a virtual desktop by default.
