What works

Opening, viewing and printing .snp files. Both wonderful levels of zoom. Help and about menus. That's about all there is.

What does not

The install routine bombs because of a non-working version of extract.exe bundled with it. You need to manually extract the snap901.cab file and install it with "wine acmsetup.exe /T *.stf"

What was not tested

Tested on .snp files from a single surce only. Needs to be tested on multiple .snp files from different office versions.

Requires functioning printers before it will render pages Fonts appear poor due to no antialiasing. current version is called 901 in the install files, but Version 10 in the 'About ' box.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO: installation

You will need the "cabextract" program installed to install Snapshot Viewer.

From the command line:

  • Run the install program as follows to extract the files to a new directory called 'snap':
    • wine snpvw.exe /C /T:snap
  • Change directory to the newly created directory
    • cd snap/snap
  • Extract files from the extracted files
    • cabextract snap901.cab
  • Run the install proper 
    • wine acmsetup.exe /T *.stf
  • Follow the install until its completion. It tells you that the program did not install, but this seems to be incorrect.
  • Leave the directory and delete the install files.
    • cd ../..; rm -R snap
  • Run
    • wine "c:\\program files\\snapshot viewer\\snapview.exe"
    • The program should run. Try to view your .snp files.
If your files do not open correctly, please consider reporting a bug so it can be fixed.
