What works

- Installation
- Applying the patch
- The game itself; you can start and actually finish races and use the career mode
- Sound, BUT SEE BELOW OR ELSE

What does not

- Unpatched versions: copy protection is killing WINE, use a NoCD patch.

- SOUND, ACTUALLY: There is some background music in the menus and you can hear people talk, but that's about it: The game sound track does NOT work, also there are no engine/crash sounds ingame. I tried both ALSA and OSS.

- Playing the game with more than 2 GiB of RAM: Seriously, the game will simply refuse to start ("enable virtual memory"). If you have more than 2 GiB and are unwilling to remove some of it temporarily, you can try restricting memory usage with kernel cheat codes: mem=2000M or something like that. But beware - this can have unforseen consequences (for example: When I apply this voodoo, my onboard wifi chip just disappears). This bug is also present on Windows, the patch was supposed to fix this, but alas, it doesn't, or if it does then the NoCD patch is reverting its effect.

- Multiplayer: This COULD work, but I'm afraid it won't. I could create a game, but I didn't see any open ones. Could be because nobody is playing anymore, but I'm not to know.

Workarounds

What was not tested

- Playing any further than just a few races as it's really not that much fun without real sound.

Additional Comments

Rating this bronze BECAUSE... well, you COULD probably play it through, you might even play it online (I don't know), BUT it isn't really fun without sound. If it had sound, I'd rate it silver or gold.
