Player has repaint problems with default configuration, resulting in a mostly black window. This can be mitigated somewhat by changing the QuickTime video settings using the QuickTime control panel applet. Use "wine control" then open the applet or load it directly on the command line using:
wine rundll32 shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL QuickTime.cpl
In Video Settings, uncheck "Enable DirectDraw On Secondary Monitors". This mostly solves the problem but not if a virtual desktop is used. In that situation the only solution is to select "Safe Mode (GDI Only)".
