[Note: A windows 7 would be nice to pull dll's from if you are dual booting or using wubi or like I was using virtualbox and just networked a shared folder to get the dll's I needed]
Step 1 - Install Playonlinux through Ubuntu Software Center
Step 2 - download the full install of imvu's client from the link provided here
Step 3 - Click on Install you can use the default wine prefix that is 1.4.1(System works) and then configure the prefix to be Windows 7/XP.
Step 4 - Give it a run see if it works, two errors pop up but if you just okay them it loads up.
If the fonts in game look distorted, make sure you install the "ttf-mscorefonts-installer" package, as this provides the windows fonts used by IMVU. You can install it easily on Debian/Ubuntu based distros by using the following command in the terminal ("Ctrl+Alt+T" is a keyboard shortcut to open it):
sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
You should be prompted to enter your password for sudo as usual.
