In terms of the game itself, everything works perfectly. There was the occasional graphics glitch, but nothing serious. In contrast to earlier tests, it is not necessary to alter the desktop launcher. However, it was necessary to install the game from an ISO on the hard driver, rather than from the game disk itself. The game disk it still required to play.
The Sims 3 pets also installed and runs perfectly.
See below for some workarounds I found necessary.
What does not
EA download manager/Origin.
What was not tested
Additional expansion packs (other than the Pets).
I found it necessary to install *both* mono and the .NET 2.0 packages in the same bottle for the installer and game to run correctly. Although mono & .NET may conflict, it was the only way to install and run the game I found. As previously mentioned, it is necessary to install vcrun2005 in the same bottle as the Sims. On first launch, the game appeared to run at an odd resolution with the screen shifted relative to the monitor so that I was unable to click on some buttons. In order to set the correct resolution I had to enable a virtual desktop in Wine, launch the Sims, set the Sims resolution to the native resolution of my monitor, exit, disable virtual desktop and the relaunch the Sims.

To use the launcher you need to install dotnet20 via winetricks!
Receiving the following?

Fix by installing vcrun2005sp1 with "winetricks vcrun2005sp1"
If you have nvidia card and are having brightness issues, after entering the game, use the command 'nvidia-settings -l' (in terminal) or just launch the nvidia panel to solve the brightness problem. If the problem appears again, just repeat the command.
For ATI on Ubuntu 10.04 x64 the following works fine; Go to System->Control Center->ATI Catalyst Control Center->Color and click the Default button. The colors now change back to normal.
Bug 18991 (crash loading a town) fix:
env WINEPREFIX="~/.wine" TZ="America/Bahia" wine "TS3.exe"
Note: It might be best to change America/Bahia to your own TimeZone
Note that Greg Noe was able to download content (at least the Rivertown) by launching the Launcher from within the game, killing the TS3.exe process (launcher won't let you download while the game is running), and then just downloading like usual.
