Maintainers: About Maintainership
What works
Installing the game from Origin (needs workarounds though in order to make Origin work, see it here)
Installing non-Origin expansion packs
The launcher works but as listed in the notes it won't let you download content directly through it. However you can download in game content.
Everything from a normal game session :
- Create a Sim
- Modifying a city
- Build and Buy modes
- Travels and University
Changing in game options, playing at max resolutions with High / Very High settings
And the most important, saving works !
What does not
Nothing as I think I tried the most features possible
Workarounds
What was not tested
- Very long gameplay (6 hours and more)
- Online features but I assume that the store works
- Modding the game
Hardware tested
Graphics:
Additional Comments
Tested the game on a Wine 32 bits prefix with the 2.13 staging version. Here are my PC specs : â–º CPU : AMD FX-8350 8 cores @4.0GHz â–º GPU : MSI Lightning NVIDIA GTX 770 2GB â–º RAM : 2x4GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical @1600MHz DDR3 â–º MOBO : Asrock 970 Extreme4 â–º OS : Fedora 26 x64 I use the NVIDIA 381.22 proprietary drivers for my video card. You need to install dotnet20, vcrun2005 and mfc42 in order to make the launcher and the game work. Shadows are a little buggy but that's fine. The game sometimes slows down, I think it's because of the large cities, it freezes for like 3 seconds every 15-20ish minutes then it becomes playable again. I will post a video soon where I'll try to show you the most complete gameplay.

To use the launcher you need to install dotnet20 via winetricks!
Receiving the following?
fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly
L"Microsoft.VC80.CRT" (8.0.50727.762)
err:module:attach_process_dlls "MSVCR80.dll" failed to initialize, aborting

Fix by installing vcrun2005sp1 with "winetricks vcrun2005sp1"
If you have nvidia card and are having brightness issues, after entering the game, use the command 'nvidia-settings -l' (in terminal) or just launch the nvidia panel to solve the brightness problem. If the problem appears again, just repeat the command.
For ATI on Ubuntu 10.04 x64 the following works fine;
Go to System->Control Center->ATI Catalyst Control Center->Color and click the Default button. The colors now change back to normal.
Bug 18991 (crash loading a town) fix:
env WINEPREFIX="~/.wine" TZ="America/Bahia" wine "TS3.exe"
Note: It might be best to change America/Bahia to your own TimeZone
Note that Greg Noe was able to download content (at least the Rivertown) by launching the Launcher from within the game, killing the TS3.exe process (launcher won't let you download while the game is running), and then just downloading like usual.
