What works

  • Installation. In order to get the installer to recognize the files on the second disc, I had to copy them to my hard drive and then point the installer there. (You can manually specify the path to the files on disc 2 from within the installer.)

What does not

 The game won't run.

  • Launching the game in Windows XP mode leads to apparent success (the CD is checked in the drive, and a splash screen comes up). In the debugging information printed to standard error, an unhandled exception is noted, however, and then the game exits.
  • Launching the game in Windows 98 mode leads to a dialog box titled, "A debugger has been detected," which reads, "Remove the debugger and try again." After dismissing this box, the game exits.

Additional Comments

This is a huge jump over the last time I tried to play the game in Wine. Previously, it could not complete installation and, if a Windows installation were copied over and used in Wine, there was no way to avoid the message about a debugger being present.
