What works

Installation runs fine and speedily.

Managed to cope with multiple tabs running. Ctrl+T worked for me.

Flash video (youtube, newgrounds, etc) and a flash Asteroids clone from: play.vg

Preferences and toolbar options.

Developer tools and web inspector.

Realaudio content from the BBC (can't test video as I'm not in the UK)

What does not

Tabs are blank, like has been mentioned before the close button works but does not appear.

Acid test crashed the browser.

It failed to let me log into secure sites (facebook, yahoo mail, gmail, halifax-online.co.uk,  etc)

Attempting to go to pages with Java enabled caused the browser to crash.

Attempting to play audio samples from en.wikipedia.org  failed.

Failed to show Japanese text in web pages (Even after selecting the correct encoding) however showed it fine in the title bar ... this may not be a problem with this application though.

Occasional bouts of extreme sluggishness and hanging.

Additional Comments

It would be a silver if it wasn't for the problems with secure sites and certain multimedia issues. Never tried Safari before, in general it looks and feels quite nice. I may give it a go on my windows partition.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO
(recommend to use latest wine)
  1. Download winetricks (http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks) and run
    sh winetricks corefonts flash
(corefonts prevents a crash; flash lets you view flash pages.)
  2. Download Safari 4 "for Windows XP or Vista" (without Quicktime) from http://www.apple.com/safari/ and run it with
    wine SafariSetup.exe
Deselect Install Bonjour for Windows and Install Apple Software Update.

  3. obtain iphlpapi.dll and place it in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32
  4. winecfg -> choose libraries tab, add override for iphlpapi.dll, native, builtin and then close winecfg
  5. Start Safari.exe from ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Safari/.
May crash at first start(after animation), but works then.
