What works
Installing 32-bit VLC version 1.0RC4 on a clean .wine directory
Running
VLC works without interface glitches. Loading some xvid file and
playing it worked flawlessly with good performance. So both sound/video
playback works in windowed mode.
What does not
Fullscreen caused partial screen rendering and would not exit from fullscreen.
Application prematurely exits after running for awhile, without leaving a segfault message in logs. Didn't investigate further.

Any other codecs or output methods. Default output method is automatic selection of available output methods. Didn't investigate further.
