I installed the "Köngis-Edition" (not sure if that translates directly ot King's Edition) from DVD. Copied the content of the DVD first to a local subdirectory of temp and then installed it in a 32bit virtual drive on playonlinux. I did not installed any additional features to the wine environment, as this version of the game installs anyway the DirectX 9 from the disc.
Everything works well, if you add the Engine.ini file in the Anno 1404 Program directory as mentioned by the other users.
