What works

The whole game, stable

What does not

The installation does not work. I installed it via virtualbox on an XP OS.

And copied it via Shared Folders on my Debian Lenny.

Here I had to install wine (unstable) and winetricks to change the settings an enabled WinXP and d3dx9. After all the game was able to run via wine UOSA.exe.

First of all I had severeal problems due to missing dll files of d3dx9. I looked them up on DLL-Files.com and copied them into /windows/system and system32 folder.

Due to my 1440x900 resolution I had several problems with my mouse. I could click on every interface ingame, but therefore I had to be around about 50px under the icon which was very unhandly to play.

I solved it in changing to fullscreenmode and lowering the resolution.

To sum it up, the game is playable and you should better ignore the console messages, due to dx errors :)

Enjoy playin (if u still got problems, take the classic client)

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO
Problems with mouse
This can be solved for some clients by setting "MouseThread=off" in every uo.cfg (there are many for each character and one global).
Problems running uo.exe
You can safely use client.exe for the game and run uopatch.exe from time to time manually.
Connecting to free shards
You have to disable encryption for your client:
  1. Either you can find already patched client for your shard (browse the shard forums). And you can run it like the normal one (tested by Plague).
  2. Or you can patch the client yourself using UO Rice (some say this can be only done on Windows and before any patching) and then run the patched client. (suggested by sk8dork, not tested by Plague).

Mad for this game

but I don't have a clue as to how to make it work for me.
how to install on current versions
by Nicholas Anton on Monday August 30th 2010, 18:24
Just a fyi...i thought it was completely broken and followed the instructions via bug 21650. What was extracted in my version of the installer was the mythic patching program and NOT the entire program ready to run (no client.exe). However, and upon running the patcher it seemed to just exit without error.

I gave up and worked on my computer for a bit, then went to get something to eat.

When i got back...the client was installed. It's not broken..just really...really slow.
