RC5 is the last release candidate before the final version. It is very similar to the final, but unlike 2.0 final and versions after, this one has no problems connecting on Wine.
What does not
What was not tested
All in all, if you're dying to use Visual IRC, this is newest version that gives you the chance of doing that. The shame is, 2.0 final and later versions run far more stable but refuse to connect ("Not a Winsock" error). If a new version is released that fixes the Windows 95/98 connection problems introduced in 2.0 final, that version will most likely work in Wine flawlessly. There are similar native clients that are worth using though, like X-Chat. mIRC is also very similar to ViRC and runs far more stable on current builds of Wine. Unless Virtual IRC is your absolute favorite client it is not currently worth using in a Wine environment.
