WineHQ

WordPad

A cut-down version of MS Word. Wordpad ran with wordpad.exe, mfc42u.dll, riched20.dll and msvcrt.dll copied from XP. Wine 20030219. (Wouldn\'t run with builtin msvcrt.dll: wcstod unimplemented.) Lots of functionality missing... particularly bad at loading existing Word docs.

What works

Opening and saving .rtf files. Basic editing was also tested.

What does not

  • Opening .doc or .wri files results in a lot of garbage characters, and no text formatting is applied
  • No font is selected by default, and text formatting does not work until you have chosen one
  • The left margin is not honoured, and text drawn in that region is not redrawn properly

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO
Place mfc42u.dll in Wine's windows/system32 directory (usually .wine/drive_c/windows/system32)
Add a dll override so Wine uses native 'wordpad.exe', or start WordPad with 'WINEDLLOVERRIDES=wordpad.exe=n wine wordpad'.
