To make the ground visible open regedit. Navigate to (if something does not exist, create it) HKEY_CURRENT_USER-->Software-->Wine-->Direct3D-->Useglsl Set it to "disabled" You also need to install wmp9 with winetricks. Otherwise the game will crash if you hit "start new game" or "accept" after you created your character.
