What does not
Trying to change screen resolution inside the game makes the application crash.
Set up default resolution before starting the game won't give any error.

In order to fix disappearing items on GeForce boards, google for "cshell.dll" library replacement for the game.
It is a well-known GeForce patch released back in 2000. Here it is the download mirror. Unpack the archive and replace the "cshell.dll" file in the game installation directory.
