NEXT GENERATION OF THE X UNIVERSE - X³: REUNION
The Sequel to the award winning X²: The Threat will introduce a new 3D engine as well as a new story, new ships and a new gameplay to greatly increase the variety in the X-universe. The economy of X³: Reunion will be more complex than anything seen in the X-universe before. Factories are being built by NPCs, wars can affect the global economy, NPCs can trade freely and pirates will behave far more realistically.

The Technology
Extensive development has gone into the X³ engine, making full use of DirectX 9 technology, to create dramatic visual effects and stunningly realistic starships. Coupled with the massively enhanced A.L. (Artificial Life) system, X³: REUNION will present players with an ever changing, evolving universe; where a player's actions really can shape the future of the universe.

The Feature
Newcomers will enjoy the additions to the already graphically impressive, almost living X³-Universe, while veterans can expect new construction options and an improved physics model.

The Story
What happened so far: While the Argon fleet is stretched almost to breaking point by the continuing attacks from Khaak, a new enemy is stalking the X-universe. What links a mysterious ship with the power to disappear, the ruthless Yaki pirates and a machine left by an ancient species? It's time to strap yourself in, warm up your laser cannon and get some answers.

What works

Everything (with a bit of tweaking)

At first try : Neither sound nor videos, Trading crashed the game. (as I've seen many other comments saying the same).

What does not

Especially on the current computer, sound tends to vanish after a variable time, but this problem seems to be recurrent with all wine applications on this computer.

First solution : reducing sound quality in "Audio", with WineConfig. (Ex : 22000 Khz, 8bits, acceleration "basic")

Workarounds

What was not tested

Playing a long time (I will update in a few days ^^)

Additional Comments

I put a Bronze because it DOES need fixing in order to get everything to work. What did I do to get the game to work properly ? 1. installed the game from the DvD. 2. Patched to 2.5 and I added the extra bonus content. (No more DRM) 3. Downloaded an amstream.dll file from the net (type "download amstream.dll" in google and you'll get it easily) 3. bis. Put this "amstream.dll" in "C:\windows\system32\" (the wine one (/home/regis/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/system32) 3. Ter. Configured Wine to override Wine Dll and use "amstream.dll" in native. 4. Installed "WINETRICKS" according to the how-to from forum-ubuntu.org : http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/wine_trucs_et_astuces#winetricks 5. Then I installed DirectX 9 via Winetricks (Command : winetricks directx9) Then I launched X3 reunion and for the first time I was able to watch the intro, listen to the music and hear the stations' announcements. AND I WAS ABLE TO TRADE !!!! Yes ! unbelievable :D PS : Wine is configured to emulate WinXP, with ALSA sound, and use a virtual desktop.
