What does not
Janus 4.3 is a straightforward install under Wine. However you should make sure that a printer is installed and (perhaps) connected to your machine otherwise Janus will not run. You will also need to install MS Core Fonts. Sorry! Janus requires these fonts to run successfully.
The program works very well for most functions. However, one limitation is that it is not possible to alter the parameters within the mapping function without return an error message '481'. This leads to a crash. In practice this means you can use the module, but you won't be able to select alternative planets, line settings or other features.
Sometimes there seemed to be minor problems with rendering astrocartography maps when the routine is first entered. This is resolved when a new map was chosen.
There is also a small problem when the traditional chart module is chosen. When the user chooses to view all the results of the medieval calculations routine, the mini-windows do not render properly. This is however resolved by closing down the window, and choosing View->Results....The mini-windows with all the calculated data are displayed correctly.
It is also not possible to export charts as image files. However you can use screen capture software (within a program such as Kolourpaint) to do this very effectively.
What was not tested
This is a silver rating due to the small problems noted above. However, the problems should not interfere with day-to-day use of the software.
