What works

Installer interface.

What does not

Installation fails as ODBC32.dll not found.

Workarounds

Used workarounds mentioned in previous test:

NOTE: All the following commands should be entered on the same command
window. So keep it open until the end of the guide.

1) Open a command window and set wine to 32bit mode with the command:
export WINEARCH=win32
2) The only way i managed to create a new 32bit prefix on my 64bit
system is the following. Delete (or rename if you have other installed
programs) the existing .wine folder. Then on the already opened command
window type: winecfg
3) Now you have a new 32bit prefix under the folder .wine
4) Rename the folder .wine to something like .itunes
5) Enter the command: export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.itunes
6) Go to the directory you have saved the itunes installer with the
command: cd $HOME/Downloads
7) Run the installer with the command: wine iTunesSetup921.exe (or
whatever is your installer name)
8) During the installation the installer will ask you twice to "repair"
or "update" the software. Cancel both times. Then the installer will
complete the installation successfully.
9) Now you need to install gdiplus with winetricks, run it with the
command: winetricks
10) The program should now run smoothly. The only other annoying thing
is a window popping up about a crashed process. Just go to your home
folder then to the folder /.itunes/drive_c/Program Files/Common
Files/Apple/Apple Application Support/ and delete the file distnoted.exe
11) You are ready to go with no annoying pop ups! :-)
12) if you renamed the original .wine folder in the step 2 you can now
rename it back to the name .wine again so your other programs will run
ok again.

What was not tested

None of the application itself.

iTunes and iPod shuffle

I run Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome-Shell 3 on an Atom (Samsung netbook); I not want to waste my time and hard earned money on Windows or Mac, however I have an iPhone and I've seen a few nice pieces online of ways to sync some features (aka your iTunes library with Rhythmbox and iPhone photos with F-Spot) but I want the full iTunes on Linux. I don't mind running it through Wine but I doubt an Atom can handle a dual-boot or VMWare.

Any suggestions/solutions?

Workaround

SuperUser.com has a workaround to get iTunes running inside VirtualBox with full USB and iPhone support:
superuser.com/questions/70943/sync-iphone-in-windows-xp-running-as-virtualbox-guest-under-ubuntu-9-10

I know this is no solution for Wine, but it's a useful workaround for those who need it.

The lowest down result is bogus, read it. An admin needs to remove it as it is skewing the results or at least it will when this IS supported.
