Automatic patch installation. Likely a syntax incompatibility. Installed the patch manually using "wine start /unix Gfupd101.exe" then on restarting Grim Launcher the patch was successfully detected.

Additional Comments

if using the "Play Grim from Hard Drive" option, do not choose to over-write existing files, instead click "no" when asked. Also, when the launcher requests the change to disc B, be sure to unmount the first disc yourself, then wait for the second CD to mount before you click "ok". The launcher does not unmount or eject properly but works fine as long as you do these things.
