What works

Installation – Successfully installed from the 64bit installer provided by jkdf2.com

Single Player – Ran flawlessly (up to level 3, cause then I stopped playing)

Cutscenes – Also ran flawlessly

Mutliplayer – Hosting and Joining (only tested across a private network)

What does not

Switching between multiplayer levels – Aborting the game, or ending the level and waiting for the next level to load doesn't work. The game seems to be unresponsive after a level ends in multiplayer.

Multiplayer across private networks – using tcpdump and watching the logs on my router, communication was occurring on the correct ports. The hosted game simply could never be found.

Additional Comments

Wine 1.6-rc2 and rc3 seem to run the game the best. Using more recent versions causes some cutscene and menu glitches. Note on Installation: The .iso disks must be mounted to the D:/ drive for proper installation. This must be ensured in wine cfg > drives. Native DLL overrides as listed previously: (dplay.dll, dplayx.dll, dpwsock.dll, dpwsockx.dll). These dll files as well as dplaysvr.exe must be manually copied from Disk 1 into drive_c/windows/system32 folder.

Dark Forces II Jedi Knight, Can't Play Multiplayer
by Matthew Guertin on Monday May 9th 2016, 15:37
Hey,

So, I followed instructions and opened JK using the -windowgui command in the terminal, but the join/host connection boxes were still empty. When I rolled the cursor over those boxes, there were sounds of items being encountered; but when I clicked on them repeatedly, I got a "Cannot connect to the network" error message. I also followed instructions and set all the required .dll files as native, and that didn't do anything, either. Anyone know how to fix this? (I use Lubuntu, if that matters.)

Seems like it could be a GUI error not loading the text for the different network options or that the network options themselves are not loading. Have you tried running JK without the -windowgui option, and have you tried running winetricks for directplay and directx9?
