What does not

• While the background scales nicely to large resolutions, the characters' zoomed pixels look ugly.  So I prefer to view it in native resolution, using
  wine explorer /desktop=ElDorado,640x480 engine.exe­
• It starts without sound the first time.  Visit the configuration menu.  Then restart to hear­ the intro.­
• It tends to delete its own configuration settings.  They are stored in ...\engine\eldorado.ini, above engine\linc\engine.exe.  Save a copy or return to the configuration menu.
• Even though it's a German game, played in the German locale in UNIX and winecfg, the Y and Z keys are swapped on a German keyboard (bug #19969).
• If you start without CD in the drive, you cannot control the "bitte einlegen" requester (see nocd trick below and forget about that problem).

You can play without your noisy CD-ROM drive, at the cost of another 150MB on your HD, as follows: - Copy the directories movies/ and gmovies/ to your installation directory. - In winecfg, declare a virtual CD-ROM drive, give it the same label as your original disk and let it point to your installation directory.
