What works

Everything as far as I can tell.

What does not

Settings -> Video -> Resolutions.

Changing the resolution to the native one of the monitors just leaves the game with a black screen(game still running under it judging from the sounds). Restarting doesn't fix that issue, you need to edit the "[install dir]/Will Rock/bin/willrock.ini' file.

Resoliution values can be found around the line ~160:

  • VIDEO_SizeX=1366
  • VIDEO_SizeY=768

Alternatively and what I would suggest, is to change the VIDEO_FullScr=Yes to VIDEO_FullScr=No a few lines further from the resolution.

This way it should auto adjust to the window.(If it looks broken or messed up at first, just Alt + Tab twice and that should fix it. And plus you can use your DE's window managers shortcuts to make the window full screen. Example, if you're using XFCE just press Alt + F11.

Workarounds

There is one bug where the game wont even launch and will
throw "gsVideoInit() failed" error. Not sure what causes this, needs
more testing. Most likely it's related to Video drivers or wine prefix
used.

D3D7 seems to work with the setting "VIDEO_Drv=DirectDraw HAL (display); Wine D3D7 RGB"

What was not tested

The full game. I played 5 chapters and everything worked fine.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

The game runs between 24 and 30 fps on WINE 2.9, but I think there are micro shutters or the frame time is not stable. Cant really test that fully for now. Maybe I'll do a full debug testing session when WINE 3.0 comes out. :)
