The game installs to Program Files on wine64 even though it's 32 bits program. Game only runs on 640x480, so that's the right size for a virtual desktop. The test was in a virtual desktop.

HOWTO: skip unskippable briefing

If you'd rather skip the minutes long briefing when you start a new game, go into the directory and rename the following;

  1. albrief.dll
  2. embrief.dll

This will skip the briefing. Enjoy.

Current error messages

So I've been trying to get tactical battle mode to work (just sent in a new test result with 1.1.8), and so far have gotten windows native DLLs for d3drm and d3dxof. The battle mode will start up fine, except that I can't see the ships or the starfield. As soon as I unpause the battle or try to click anywhere in the starfield, the game crashes. As near as I can tell, these the most relevant error message in the console:

Try using the methods described for d3drm.dll native by users of Emperor: Battle for Dune

appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=4179&iTestingId=1401

Place a native version of windows d3drm.dll in the game folder or /windows/system32 and test to see if the game is playable in tactical mode.

I tried downloading this d3drm.dll file online and placed it in /windows/system32. There already was a file there so I just made a backup of the existing one and put the new one in. Upon arriving at tactical mode, I get an error saying "The pixel format was invalid as specified.". Perhaps the DLL is the wrong type/version?

Hope this helps in the debug process. Cheers.
Running with -w
by Michael Cugini on Saturday March 3rd 2007, 1:17
My installation went smoothly, but like was mentioned before, I had to manually change the screen resolution. Another option is to run with the option -w, running it in windowed mode. All the icons were the proper color by doing so.
game works but no text... :S
by David St-Hilaire on Thursday April 27th 2006, 18:19
The installation worked fine. As for running the game, well everything looks fine but I don't see any text in game (ex: char stats). So it works but still cannot be played without the text...

Also, it seems that I can't pass the annoying speech of the beggining of the game...

Anyone has insights on solving theses issues?

Thanks :D

With skipping the opening speeches, I found that I could not do that on Windows 2000 (the Microsoft version ;), so Wine is not alone in this problem.

I think the problem with not being able to skip the beginning speech is resolved with the patch.

However, I can't confirm this because when I tried running the patch I got an error. :/
