Photoshop CS was commercially released in October 2003 as the eighth major version of Photoshop. Photoshop CS increased user control with a reworked file browser augmenting search versatility, sorting and sharing capabilities and the Histogram Palette which monitors changes in the image as they are made to the document. Match Color was also introduced in CS, which reads color data to achieve a uniform expression throughout a series of pictures.
It installs perfectly. Where in earlier Wine versions winetricks or q4wine were needed before an install could be attempted, the 1.6.2 version lets you install without previous preinstall actions. It does ask for additional installs (e.g. gecko) during the install automatically. Finished the install without any problems.
After install PS works flawlessly with only minute adjustments.
What does not
After installation I did run into some problems related with the NVidia screen driver powering my dual screen set up. PS showed serious flickering of PS screen elements, moving PS windows (e.g. Layers and History windows) was barely responsive and screen refreshes failed. However, changing back to the open source XOrg drivers solved these issues completely.
Another minor issue is that occasionally the window sizing seems to be off in dialogue windows, thus for example in the Save window cutting off some of the lettering/ dialogue on the left side. This occured only for a limited time after the install, then disappeared and has not returned.
Wine window containing PS does not minimise/ maximise and behaves as it it "Always on Top". However, the option "Always on Top" was not selected/ is not active. SOLUTION: Close PS if active. Copy atmlib.dll to directory ~.wine/drive_c/windows/system32. Restart PS. Normal window behaviour restored. If problem remains, this can be solved during a PS session by first going to File> Open> open a file or cancel this dialogue window. After this normal window behaviour is restored.
Remove conflict ALT Xubuntu and Photoshop keyboard shortcut. ALT key also assigned in Xubuntu, so interference on e.g. PS clone stamp.
Solution: Settings> Windows Manager Tweaks> Accessability tab> Change key to grab window to
What was not tested
As in earlier installs, did not test the scanner connection (TWAIN).

Thanks to earther for the following email:
I was having problems with the Photoshop 7 ALT-Click keybinding in a new Debian install running Compiz. I did the standard window manager tweak but it still didn't work properly. Then I discovered an ALT-Click keybinding in the Compiz Window Management > Move Window > Initiate Window Move settings. I changed it to 'super' like in Gnome window management and voila, it seemed to get it working again in Photoshop. You might want to add that bit of info to the clone tool info on the Photoshop 7 page. earther
