What works

install: it's a tricky business.

crucial is to install ROF in a clean wine environment, so give it a dir of it's own,

and then do: export WINEPREFIX=( install dir )

then do winecfg

then and only then, start installing.

visual C runtime installs, crashes halfway

directx 9 installs

acrobat installs

.net installs, with errors.

 setup window boots, and you need to update.

from then on, things work pretty normal.

when using fullscreen:

only the cockpit view (once flying) works ok. the others are garbled. ( chase view etcetera )

when using windowed, this goes away. some graphics flicker, but probably because of  turning of vertical sync..

graphics card: 1 GB nvidia 250 GTS ( quite hefty, indeed.)

compared to windows, reasonable performance, not noticeably less.
