- i'm using the dvd version
- for patching to 1.3 i had some trouble, the reason was the dvd version. So i have to load "SplinterCell13DVD.zip". This package includes the patch 1.3 and two folders named "DVD Patch 1" and "DVD Patch 2". Enter "DVD Patch 1" and replace the orginal splintercell.exe (C:\Progam Files\Ubisoft\...) with this one. Start the setup (patch 1.3). When its done enter "DVD Patch 2" and replace the splintercell.exe again.

For Windows and Linux systems who have newer video cards--
PROBLEM: The shadow placements may be incorrect. Spot light beams may not appear. Flash light beams may not appear. Ceiling light beams may not appear.
FIX: 1. go to the splintercell.ini file and open this with text editor.
2. Change forceshadowmode=0 to forceshadowmode=1

Workaround for projected shadows not working
by Julian Murgia on Friday October 26th 2012, 2:01
I observed a bug wher projected shadows were not working properly after a graphic driver change. Sam was appearing suddenly very lit, then very black during moves. Some objects were improperly lit as well as rooms were almost all darkened.
This bug is known and it is not a Wine bug.
Go to your drive_c/Program Files/Ubi Soft/Splinter Cell/System folder.
Locate the SplinterCell.ini file here and edit it.
Scroll down to the section entitled [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
Find the line here named 'ForceShadowMode' and set this value to 0.
If it is commented out (first line character is ';') then un-comment it bu removing the ';' at the beginning
Save this document and the shadows should be restored.

Addendum: I forgot trying to run the Game in fullscreen, so here's my report on that: DOESNT WORK! the whole system goes ape-feces and crashes, only option is a restart at that point. in virt. desktop mode the game runs as described above. i also tried changing the graphics settings to all possible variations, none of which got rid of that lighs-shining-through-walls glitch. anyways, sorry for the inconvenience, and remember: always run in virt. desktop!
