Additional Comments

- i'm using the dvd version - for patching to 1.3 i had some trouble, the reason was the dvd version. So i have to load "SplinterCell13DVD.zip". This package includes the patch 1.3 and two folders named "DVD Patch 1" and "DVD Patch 2". Enter "DVD Patch 1" and replace the orginal splintercell.exe (C:\Progam Files\Ubisoft\...) with this one. Start the setup (patch 1.3). When its done enter "DVD Patch 2" and replace the splintercell.exe again. More Infos: http://ubisoft-de.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft_de.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10502 - If you have problems with the fullscreen mode (e.g. broken, flaring), check the resultion - fglrx 11.1, HD4330

HowTo / Notes

How to fix lighting and shadow effects.

For Windows and Linux systems who have newer video cards:

The shadow placements may be incorrect and therefore spotlight beams, flash light beams and ceiling light beams may not appear.

To fix this do the following:

  1. In the game folder go to SYSTEM folder and open SplinterCell.ini file with text editor.
  2. Find block [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
  3. Add or change (if string exists) ForceShadowMode=1 to ForceShadowMode=0
  4. Save the edited file
PlayStation 3 HD textures

The textures from the PlayStation 3 port of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell are higher definition and can be installed by overwriting the existing textures.

The HD textures are mostly faithful to the original textures.

Install Mission Pack (Bonus Mission from disk)

The North American Collector's Edition of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory included three bonus missions to the original Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

In Germany rondomedia released a Mission Pack with the files of those three bonus missions for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell for the EMEA regions.

You can install it from the DVD the same way you would on a Windows installation:

  1. Insert disk into drive
  2. Follow the installer

Troubleshooting

When trying to install the Mission Pack (Bonus missions) on the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell version that is included in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Complete (or similar boxed versions) you may get the following error: "Could not retrieve version number! Installation will be aborted." To circumvent this you need to:

  1. Find a download of the archive splintercell13dvd.zip
  2. Unpack splintercell13dvd.zip
  3. Replace your SplinterCell.exe with the SplinterCell.exe found in the DVD Patch 1 folder of the archive.
  4. Now try to install the patch 1.309 (EMEA) - included on the Mission Pack disk - as well as the missions, the error should be gone.
  5. Lastly replace the SplinterCell.exe yet again with the Splinter Cell.exe found in the DVD Patch 2 folder in order to prevent not being able to start the game due to lack of the fitting installation media.
  6. You should now be able to run the game again and find the bonus missions in the level selection.
