Additional Comments

Video is extremely slow and laggy without changing the rendering engine. With the configtool.exe bundled with the GOG version, its not possible to change the engine. However, in this post (http://www.gog.com/en/forum/divine_divinity_series/how_to_change_the_rendering_engine/perm=5/#p_b_5) on the GOG.com forums, a user explains how an original CD version's configtool.exe can be used instead. You can also use the tool included in the demo version (just Google "Divine Divinity Demo"). I used the tool to change it to DirectDraw and then said Test then Apply & Close. Afterwards, the video works just fine. Remember to use the GOG.com-included config tool again to set a good resolution as the old one cannot set it above 800x600. You can also manually edit the files config.lcl and config.div to get the desired resolution (I don't know which one is read by the game). Sound for me was completely broken. It stuttered and I occasionally got console messages about buffer underruns in alsa. Changing to OSS, or changing Hardware Acceleration to "Emulation" did nothing to help the problem. I ended up just turning all sound volume to 0 in the options. I didn't test sound with the Software rendering engine in case its a video issue.
