Additional Comments
Installed and ran fine w/steam, no tricks required. Performance did increase when multicore setting was disabled. I am using the default ATI drivers that come w/Ubuntu and I have a Radeon HD4770 + AMD Phenom x2 550, the frame rate was quite sluggish. I think its due to the drivers rather than the card since I had all my graphics settings on low and resolution downscaled. Multiplayer froze twice on me, once during loading, and another at the end of the match. Not sure if it was truely frozen or just taking a really really long time to load.

many versions of wine were tested and the MOTD fix had no effect, I even disabled motd in the server.
