What works
Everything tested: installation, playing the game, exiting the game. Fonts look fine in Episode 3 for me (they were messed up in episodes 1 and 2 with an ATI card and Wine > 1.1.26).

Installed the game and then copied D3DX9_41.dll to the folder with the executable to get it working. I tried using Wine 1.1.33 first, but the graphics had a couple of issues, so I then switched to the Ubuntu 9.04 repository and installed wine 1.1.32. Worked perfectly.
