What works

Out of the Box:
  • IE 8: mostly, if you don't need JavaScript
  • IE 6: very well, actually
  • Only a single tab crashes on errors, not the whole program

After using "winetricks win7":

  • IE 9: very well

What does not

General:

  • Showing content on most HTTPS connections (Google does work, though)
  • There are some visual problem (ranges of the screen that are not painted, empty popups). After hiding the IETester window all content is blank.
Per IE version:
  • IE 8:
    • JavaScript
    • Opening the right-click menu
    • HTTP Basic Auth: A dialog appears but the input won't be accepted
  • IE 7:
    • Causes err:seh:setup_exception_record
  • IE 6:
    • Displaying PNG images.
    • HTTP Basic Auth: "Call from 0x7b83bc25 to unimplemented function credui.dll.CredUIPromptForCredentialsA"
    • Google maps: Causes page fault, whole Wine instance hangs
  • IE 5.5:
    • "Call from 0x7b83bc25 to unimplemented function msls31.dll.LsGetRubyLsimethods"
  • IE 9:
    • Does not appear in "WinXP" mode
    • Drag and drop events in JavaScript
    • Random page faults after five to ten minutes (repeatable)
    • HTTPS: Page fault
    • Right-click menu: Clicking the menu item does not do anything
    • HTTP Basic Auth: No dialog to enter you credentials appears. If I enter the credentials in the URL, they get simply stripped ...
    • Popups appear in Wine's "IE".
  • IE 10: No option to use it, even if you set Wine to Win8.

Additional Comments

Testing IE 9 and IE 6 works quite well. Other versions are garbage.
