With the 'out of the box' steam install the keyboard does not work, as in, key presses are not registered - this alone makes the game unplayable, and it is also extremely crash prone.

The issues with the unmodified steam version can be resolved by installing a downgrade patch. This is easy to find by googling. Once downgraded, the game works flawlessly.
