What works

  • Installing
  • Playing
    • Campaign
    • Battles
    • Diplomacy
    • Menus
    • Third Age 3.5 mod

Good overall performances.

What does not

  • Some unit models in battle mode (when zooming in) are transparent except for a few details like boots, belt, weapons.
  • Sound becomes randomly choppy. It may happen after 15 minutes as well as after two hours. Exiting the game, killing pulseaudio and restarting the game always worked for me.

Additional Comments

Rated silver for two reasons: 1- Transparent units when zoomed in. 2- Annoying sound. It still needs directx to run, so use "winetricks d3dx9". I used a clean wineprefix, so directx it's really the only override this game needs. No special windows registry changes. For the Third_Age mod I had to create my own script because wine couldn't handle correctly the batch script provided woth the mod. My script is quite simple, here it is: ---------------------------------------------- #!/bin/bash cd .wine-M2TW/drive_c/Program\ Files/SEGA/Medieval\ II\ Total\ War/ export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-M2TW wine kingdoms.exe \@mods/Third_Age_3/TATW.cfg ---------------------------------------------- You may have to set some paths according to your language/configuration. Running this script will launch kingdom expansion with the third age mod. Final note: you should have at least an iso to mount because the installer won't release the disc once it asks you for the second disc.

HowTo / Notes

WARNING
When you take all units out of a city or fortification you won't be able to order any unit back in. So you should at all time have at least one unit in every city/fort.
