What works

I've had success with just about every aspect of this, including most plug-ins, and I use this as my default audio player. I use stock Ubuntu Trusty, JACK Audio Connection Kit along with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 as my USB audio interface. My music is stored on a networked ZFS volume (shared via CIFS), and foobar has no problems reading files.

It took a bit of tweaking the JACK buffer settings to get the audio to playback without any x-runs, but after I figured out the correct settings for my hardware, I get bit-perfect playback and near-perfect stability. Scrobbling works perfectly, as do these plugins/features:

  •  Stop on Error
  • Wave Seekbar (have to change frontend to GDI)
  • Dynamic Range Meter
  • 24bit/96kHz, 16bit/44.1kHz FLAC playback (with USB audio interface)
  • mp3 playback (with USB audio interface)
  • Playlist Managing/Search
  • Waveform seekbar
  • EDIT: Discogs Tagger now works with v1.55 and installing lib32nss-mdns (you also have to have a discogs.com account to get an API key)

What does not

  • Discogs Tagger plug-in - Freezes and crashes app (see above update)
  • In rare cases menu buttons in pop-up windows aren't visible
  • Album art doesn't always display, it appears to only display certain image types  EDIT: This appears to be a problem in my own settings for the cover art file name patterns
  • Volume bar does not function, but changing the system volume works

Workarounds

What was not tested

I have several plugins that I did not (yet) test:

  • ABX Comparator
  • Binary Comparator
  • CD Audio Converter
  • Converter
  • File Integrity Verifier
  • HDCD decoder
  • ZIP/GZIP/RAR Reader

I also only did not test other audio interfaces, your mileage my vary depending on your hardware. My library is only FLAC and mp3, I did not test .wma, .ogg, or other formats.

Additional Comments

This worked better than I ever expected. There isn't another comparable audio player for linux (at least with this kind of plug-in support), so having this is very convenient. I was extremely surprised how easily it handles hi-res FLAC files, and the fact that most of my plugins still work is even better. It's not perfect and in particular I miss a few plugins, but it feels almost as stable as actual linux player (I use it daily), but with a huge plug-in library to choose from.
