The introduction of Mathematica 6 in 2007 represented a revolutionary redefinition of Mathematica. Arriving only 18 months after Mathematica 6, Mathematica 7 represents another major R&D achievement, building on more than 20 years of Mathematica development, broadening and deepening almost every major area of the system, and adding several key new areas to the domain of Mathematica.

What works

âš« Installation
âš« Startup, entering license information.
âš« Basic computation.
âš« 2D graphics
âš« Manipulate[]
âš« Load/Save notebooks
âš« Basic Math Assistant window

What does not

âš« 3D graphics boxes show as black rectangles (maybe intel driver bug). Setting OffscreenRenderingMode to backbuffer doesn't help.
âš« 2D graphics are not antialiased (dunno if they are in Windows, but they are by default in native linux version)
âš« After a few 'rotations' (moving mouse inside) of 3D boxes mathematica crashes.
âš« Some crashes in LISTBOX_SetSelection, RtlFreeHeap.
âš« Notebook fonts for math formulae are rendered not as they should be (maybe i have wrong fonts or font handling is buggy?).
âš« When using desktop integration option with Royale (WXP MCE default theme), notebook background is black.
âš« Welcome window has no images and in some places no text (so, no visible way to disable showing this window on startup - i don't remember where the checkbox should be).

What was not tested

âš« Multimedia features (sound, etc.)
âš« Really complex computing
âš« Importing/Exporting files

Hardware tested

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

Some things work faster than in native linux version, e.g. notebook scrolling, responsiveness of Manipulate[] - seems most features related to 2D graphics.
