Installer (but not the actual game) requires mfc42.dll, which is not provided by wine, and will fail with a non-descriptive error message if it cannot find it.

Original CD copy protection (SafeDisc), but you can use the official NoCD released in 2010 – see extra comments.

Enabling EAX with Wine-Staging results in Audio stuttering – just leave it disabled in the settings.

Workarounds

Use winetricks mfc42 to install the missing Windows component or download the DLL manually from one of the many “dll fix”-sites.

Additional Comments

While the game installs fine, it originally refused to run without the SafeDisc kernel driver being loaded and verifying that the correct CD is inserted. Since WINE cannot load kernel drivers this used to be a show-stopper.

SafeDisc does not work with newer (7+) Windows versions however, so the developers decided to release an official NoCD crack that can be used to disable this nuisance. To install the game with this crack proceed as follows:

1. Copy the contents of both CDs to your hard drive
2. Ensure that Wine has a usable version of mfc42.dll available somewhere, otherwise the installer will fail with a non-descriptive error message
3. Run the setup.exe on CD1 and install the game as usual, locating the CD2 files on your hard drive as necessary
4. Download the NoCD crack from this page: http://www.the-deep-island.de/... (Section “Extras” / “Official No-CD Patch”)
5. Extract the contents of the downloaded archive over the original files of the installed game directory (by default: $WINEPREFIX/dosdevices/c:/Program Files (x86)/Ubi Soft/Cyan Worlds/Myst Uru Complete Chronicles)
6. Done! Launch the game as usual and set all graphic settings to maximum!

Putting the mouse sensitivity to a max and the mouse speed in your desktop as slow as possible will make the game very playable

Since wine version 1.1.36 the game no longer runs in fullscreen but you can simply workaround this issue by disabling one of the following options (or both if bug still present) at the graphics tab in winecfg:
1. let the window manager decode the window
2. let the window manager control the window

after disabling one of these the game runs like a charm again :)

Side note. If you have a very dark screen you can fix this by setting the gamma to around 1.6 with your videodriver utility. To do this you have to start the game first and then apply the temporary changes to the gamma. The ingame slider does not change the gamma but the brightness making the game look way too bright. Offcourse version 1.1.36 does not allow you to minimize the screen so to get around this. Start the app once then exit. Start your driver manager and put gamma to your liking, confirm then change the setting and quickly start uru. After 12 seconds the driver manager will change the gamma correctly :)
