What works
Walking around. Clicking on things and solving the puzzles. It actually runs in high speed too compared to when running on older version of wine (from 1.1.15 to 1.1.33) I have managed to play the whole game including with the expansion packs up all the way to the end. Sound and music work excellent and I did not see any graphical glitches in the world itself
What does not
The copy protection is a nogo. Safedisk hangs the executable before the first movie drops in. As it grabs and hang the view window along the only way of exiting is by killing it through the console. Mouse cursor looks wierd. It works but it has the shape and looks of a windows folder icon. It expands when an action is possible so it doesn't make the game harder to play. Most annoying of all: When holding the right mousebutton to view around somehow the cursor is able to exit the screen. The engine reacts by trowing the cursor back into the middle effectivly putting your view back where it started. This does not happen in native windows. It does however happen in crossover games as well. The cursor is not able to exit the screen when not holding any mouse buttons. The fonts in the startup window look scrambled. Seen this before. "Zandy" the guy in the desert moves his lips but doesn't speak. Sometimes it happens in windows too. Could be a engine bug that comes out stronger in wine
Workarounds
What was not tested
I didn't watch the starting movie all the way up to the end. Custom ages.

Additional Comments
To get the app to install you will require a virtual machine of any kind and install it in there. Then simply take out the files and registry keys and import them into your Wine environment. Another possibility is to extract the cabinets yourself. Either way installing with wine will not work at all since the annoying safedisk is also embedded inside the installer. You have to get rid of safedisk somehow to get the game started. From there it runs like a charm. If you can't stand the looks of the scrambled font any longer simply use winetricks and install allfonts. corefonts doesn't help. Tested both on ATI and Nvidia cards. no difference except in speed.
