This was the first Windows-based release. It used the 32-bit ANSI API.

There are some languages (for instance, Spanish) for which the localized version of PAF 4.x is still available but for which there is no localized version of PAF 5.x.

What works

  • Installation with no DLL overrides.
  • Create a new blank file.
  • Enter data.
  • Navigate between pedigree and family view.
  • Load, Save-As.
  • Import GEDCOM (choked on one big file, a smaller file worked).
  • Export GEDCOM.
  • Printing reports: Individual Summary, Pedigree Chart, Family Group Record.

What does not

In one case, attempting to save to an existing file seems to have triggered an unhandled page fault.

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • Complex data entry.
  • Notes.
  • Sources.
  • Installation of MS core fonts. It is very likely this would improve report printing and perhaps on-screen display.

Without MS core fonts, default font is quite ugly on screen and in printing.

HowTo / Notes

AppDB page maintenance has been suspended.

Maintenance of this AppDB page has been suspended, because PAF has been unsupported since about July 15, 2013.  A comment was posted in August, 2013 asking whether anyone still uses this application, and there has been no response.

If anyone does use this application, please post a comment.  If anyone does use this application, I'll probably resume regular testing with new versions of Wine.  (If someone else wants to be a maintainer of this page, I won't be opposed.)
