What works

  • Everything works well
  • Settings: everything on maximum
  • PhysX: High
  • Some parameters adjusted even more by hand

What does not

  • See Workarounds below for details

Workarounds

  • The game was already downloaded in wine prefix with Steam installed and configured
  • Everything else was configured in separate prefix:
    1. you don't really need dotnet20 , builtin Mono + mdx (Managed DirectX) is enough, this will fix .NET's "file not found" critical errors but will show three "GetSystemInfo unimplemented" noncritical which can be ignored and skipped
    2. physx required so you can get latest from Nvidia site (for now it's 9.17.0524) but you'll need to install msxml3 and (maybe) msxml4, otherwise installer won't finish installation correctly
    3. shader cache generator require d3dcompiler_43 from original DirectX otherwise you'll see corresponding error
    4. play with FluidMark to be sure GPU PhysX works (you need wine-staging) and copy it's PhysXDevice.dll into game's Binaries/ folder to make launcher and game happy
    5. run Steam in this prefix (mine installed in separate prefix but runs w/o problems in this one directly from folder where it was installed)
    6. if you want to launch game directly from steam - remove/rename installscript.vdf file to prevent redist/ software installation by Steam, otherwise you can run Binaries/BmStartApp.exe

What was not tested

  • more than 10% story mode

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

  • For non-360 gamepad support you need only x360ce.ini and xinput1_3.dll in Binaries/ and override for xinput1_3.dll in winecfg, install and configure in separate prefix (requires dotnet AFAIK) or copy files from one of your already configured games

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO Install and Run Batman

This requires a recent version of Wine.

You will not be able to save your progress in game.

Using winetricks install dotnet20 and dotnet30.

In the Steam directory containing Batman rename the installscript.vds file.

~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/batman arkham asylum/

Install Phsyx and GFWLfrom ./redist.  The latter requires the switch /nodotnet to install successfully.

Run BmStartApp.exe from the ./Binaries folder.  Authenticate your key (retrieve from Steam) and activate the game.

Run BmStartApp.exe to play the game.

If the game fails to start due to .net errors then two configuration files need to be updated as is described here.

Gamepads
This game needs an XBox 360 gamepad to work. A user has reported getting it working with another gamepad with x360ce.
