  • sound, voices (MacOS seems not subject to bug #21209)
  • Resolutions 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 (virtual desktop)
  • load & save game, including thumbnails

What does not

  • The default renderer, bug #21351. You must edit bin/release/plugins.cfg to uncomment the GL renderer or the screen becomes black half-way through the intro.

  • High or middle shadow setting causes bad textures. Use low setting or none.

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • Installer untested on MacOS (I expect no trouble). I once installed using wine-1.1.31 on Linux, then moved the installation directory.  The app needs no registry entry.
  • Playing more than 15 minutes. => Limit AppDB rating

Additional Comments

1024x768 appears to be the best resolution for this game. Otherwise some textures are zoomed and smeared. If you run in w2k mode, savegames are stored in the game's save subdirectory. In xp mode in (c:\users\...) %USERPROFILE%\Anwendungsdaten\Ankh\save\ instead.

HowTo / Notes

Needs an old version of Wine or changes to the configuration

­­­­Use wine-0.9.31 .. 0.9.43 to play this game with the default Direct3D9 renderer because of several regressions. These old versions should work except the item icons in the inventory may not be drawn correctly (bug #21354).

The maintainer would appreciate if you would find out whether one of these old ve­rsions works better than the others.

You can use much more recent versions of Wine (such as 1.1.34/36) if you change bin/release/plugins.cfg to use the GL renderer instead. The speech output issue (bug #21209) may still affect your machine.­
